Formal education is defined as attending a primary school, secondary school or university. A respondent is considered to have at least some formal education if he/she attended primary school, even without finishing. Pre-school, vocational training, and adult education do not count as formal education.


The distribution of the population with at least some formal education is presented in Table In comparison to the literacy rate, the percent of the population attending formal education is lower (62.7%). Formal education rates are significantly higher in urban areas, between male respondents, and within the richest population group.
